About Us

About Impact Grant Development (IGD)

At IGD, we’re motivated by the vision that all people have the resources they need to thrive. All over the world, there are people suffering from having even their most basic needs met.

Our mission is to secure funding to transform systemic inequity so all communities can flourish. We are passionate about creating an impact through our work as grant developers. We are especially impassioned about the provision of human rights for all people, and for reducing disparities experienced by unserved or underserved communities. At IGD, we have years of experience in grant writing, as well as knowledge of the Alaska Tribal Health System.

About Me

I spent four years as an in-house grant writer for an Alaska Native tribal health organization, during which time I saw the significant gap in grant development services for our Tribal communities. Out of a desire to provide access to these critical skills, I founded IGD to assist Tribes, communities, organizations, local governments, universities, and more, with applying for funding to address the challenges they face and to achieve their goals and mission. With a background in English and International Relations, I have a passion for storytelling and a desire to see human needs met so communities can thrive. To date, I submitted over 150 applications with an awarded amount total of over $75 million in grant funds.

grant prospect research

IGD provides prospective funding research through our access to professional databases. To determine the best matched funding sources for your organization, we analyze 990s, review prior organizations that secured funding, identify trends within the funding source, and examine eligibility and funding priorities. We actively search for foundation grants, as well as state and federal grant opportunities and contracts.

Foundation, State and Federal Grants

IGD will spearhead the full development of foundation grant applications. In conjunction with your programmatic subject matter experts (SME), IGD will write the components of the application listed within the funding announcement requirements.

Research Grants

IGD offers grant development services for research grants. While the bulk of research grants are primarily written by the Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team due to the design of the project, IGD has experience providing application development assistance and project management for research grant opportunities published by funders such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Alaska IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (AK INBRE), and the University of Washington Institute of Translational Health Sciences.

FAQs

1. What services do you offer?

We offer grant prospect research, grant application development, grant application review, and grant administration services. For more detailed information, check out Our Services.

2. How much do you charge for services?

Grant development and administration services are all unique due to the scope of work, therefore the amount charged per service is also unique. To determine the cost for services provided, IGD takes into account the scope of work dependent upon which of the above services is requested, application development requirements as determined by the funder and the funding opportunity announcement or notice of award, estimated hours to complete an application dependent upon type of funder (i.e., foundation vs. federal) and the size of the application, any prior work done on the application or project development, and whether your organization has standard language to utilize for the application. To receive an estimate for services, please fill out the Contact Us form and we will develop a tailored quote for you.

3. Why should I hire a grant development professional?

At IGD, we use the term “development” more frequently than “writing” due to the broad array of skills it takes to submit a grant application. Grants require not only persuasive writing, but they also require a high level of project management, experience reading and interpreting a funding announcement, significant research capabilities, project development, and the ability to keep abreast of the constantly changing funding environment, strategic plans for funders, and rules/regulations for areas such as federal cost principles. By hiring IGD, you can remain focused on your day-to-day work while we prepare a competitive grant application for your organization, oversee the administration of an awarded grant, or identify potential funding sources for your organization or community.

4. What funders do you have experience with?

We have written grants for corporate, foundation, state, and federal funders, such as the Department of Energy, State of Alaska, Centers for Disease Control, United States Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Health Resources and Services Administration, Administration for Native Americans, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Denali Commission, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Justice, Indian Health Service, Alaska Community Foundation, May & Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, and Direct Relief.

We also have extensive experience assisting with the development of research grants for funders such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Alaska IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence, and the University of Washington Institute of Translational Health Sciences.

5. What industry have you written grants for?

With previous experience working in-house for an Alaska Native tribal health organization, we have written grants for a wide variety of topics. Our grant development portfolio includes projects such as tobacco prevention, suicide prevention, behavioral health, research addressing Alaska Native health, health promotion and nutrition, food security, engineering, water and sanitation, environmental health, community development, emergency preparedness, substance misuse prevention, HIV/STD prevention, injury prevention, telehealth, data and analytics, epidemiology, clean energy, and more.

6. How long does it take to develop a grant proposal?

Depending on the type of funder and the size of the application, grant development can take anywhere from 10 hours for a foundation letter of intent to 160 hours for a complex research grant with multiple components. IGD will estimate the hours for the identified opportunity based on experience, type/size of the grant, and any elements of the application for which you may have standard language or boiler templates.

7. What is your grant development success rate?

Many factors are taken into account when calculating the success rate for grants awarded vs. applications submitted. Grants are very competitive and require project, mission, and eligibility alignment with funders and their priorities. Sometimes an application may seem like a great fit, but the funder is looking for specific qualities in the project/organization they choose to fund. Over the last four years, IGD’s success rate is roughly 88%, with the greatest number of successful applications from federal sources.

8. Do you guarantee funding for submitted applications?

IGD does not guarantee successful selection for any applications developed. In fact, it would be unethical to do so; however, we will prepare the most competitive application we can based on history of your organization, eligibility, project and strategic alignment, your participation and input, and compliance with application requirements.

9. How long after a proposal is submitted can I expect to receive determination of an award?

The timeline from application submission to notice of award or denial varies depending upon the type of funder, funding source, and pre-determined schedule from the funder.
